What is feminine energy?
The first thing to understand about feminine energy is the difference between femininity and feminine energy. Femininity is a set of general attributes typically associated with women – a social construct. But feminine energy is a set of ideals that guide how you live your life, regardless of how you dress or look.
Feminine energy is about trusting your intuition to guide you. It’s flowing, dynamic, and ready to go with nature’s natural rhythm, rather than pushing or forcing an outcome. It’s soft, grounded and nurturing, and a person in their feminine energy isn’t afraid to feel the vastness of their emotions and learn the lessons they need to grow.
Feminine vs. masculine energy
Masculine energy is associated with DOING, such as achieving goals, providing, and letting your ambition guide you. Whereas, feminine energy is embodied by BEING and receiving.
Both of these forces are based on the principle of polarity, meaning opposites; we need both of these forces so that we can exist in harmony. You might have the goal of getting fit, so you take up weightlifting, running, or any other form of exercise. You can’t sustain it without taking time to rest, rejuvenate and eat intuitively – rest and action are important.

How will your life transform when you’re in your feminine?
We live in a masculine-driven culture that places so much value on those doing traits like hustling, achieving, assertiveness, action, and success. The constant grind can leave you exhausted and burnt out. When you embrace your feminine energy and listen to your body’s signals to slow down and just be, life becomes much more balanced.
For example, when I was on my 9-5 grind, I felt the need to do anything and everything in one day. I’d get up early, go to work, come home, quickly get ready for the gym, come home and eat dinner, sleep and repeat. That lifestyle wasn’t sustainable, so I had to make some big changes which involved listening to my intuition about the job that didn’t suit me or the life I wanted to live. I also made small adjustments to my day that made my life more soft and free-flowing, which helped me to create a beautiful mental space.
You’ll find so much clarity in this energy, and things that seemed important will become the hurdles that once kept you from experiencing a happy, balanced, and fulfilled life.
When you’re not operating from a survival mode, and you delve deep within to unlock your divine feminine, watch how others respond to your magnetism. But more importantly, watch how you respond to yourself. I promise you, it’s going to change your life.
Try these practices to tap into your feminine energy:
1. Intuitive movement
Intuitive movement comes from understanding your body and what it needs, particularly as women. Understanding the different menstruation phases can be super helpful when creating a workout routine. For instance, in the menstrual cycle, light movement may be best. During ovulation, try something more high-intensity.
When I stopped pressuring myself to do the workouts I felt like I HAD to do (and didn’t enjoy), exercising felt like a chore. But when I started to become in tune with my body, I found a fitness regime that I enjoy following.
One of the best movements to tap into your feminine energy is yoga. Yoga is a wonderful form of exercise to reconnect with your body and practise mind-to-body connection. I use it as a form of meditation as well because the sole focus is to concentrate on your breathing and flow of movement. After I come out of a class, I radiate divine feminine energy.
Pilates changed my life, reformer pilates, more specifically. Not only does it tone your body, it improves cognitive functioning, posture, flexibility, strength, balance, and body awareness. After a stressful day, there’s no better cure than a good pilates class. There’s something so healing about being in a room full of people who have the same goal of self-improvement and putting all your focus into the movement – pulling attention back to yourself.
2. Establish boundaries
Creating boundaries is one of the most important steps in cultivating feminine energy. A boundary refers to how you accept treatment from others, and how you don’t; it crosses your values and morals. In terms of feminine energy, a boundary isn’t about trying to make someone behave differently, it’s about how you respond to that behaviour; it’s how close you let them get to you after they’ve crossed that line. You need to have standards that you can act on after someone breaks a boundary.
It’s one of the hardest things to follow because many women fear that if they set certain boundaries with men, for example, then they will walk away, leaving them with feelings of abandonment. But a woman in her feminine energy knows her value and worth, and if a man can’t respect her boundaries, she can walk away with grace.
How do you create a boundary in a feminine way? It’s simple – you need to figure out what your values are and make a promise to yourself that if those values are crossed, you can walk away. You don’t need to stick around and allow someone to continually push those boundaries, because you have enough self-respect to know that if that person wanted you in their life, they wouldn’t have crossed the line you’ve set. It’s easier said than done, but remember that your time is precious, and we don’t have much of it. So choose wisely about who you allow in your life, and who you don’t.
3. Embrace play
This is one of the most important components in feminine energy that will make you truly magnetic; playfulness is about finding freedom and joy, where you can be your most authentic self. It’s about being in a free, flow state and accepting the unknown. It’s taking the time to do the things that you love.
So much of the time we’re in our “masculine” when we’re planning our lives down to the minute. Planning out things, of course, has its time and place, but carving out some free space for you to do something spontaneous helps to take the seriousness out of life. Whether it be something as small as blasting some nostalgic hits from your childhood or taking yourself out to your favourite spot, doing things that bring you joy, incorporating play will make you irresistible.
Try to get in touch with your favourite childhood activities. For example, sometimes I’ll put on an old Barbie movie or an episode of Hannah Montana and my spirits will instantly lift. It’s the easiest way to get the most infectious energy and shake off the stressors of adult life.
4. Ground yourself in nature
Getting out into nature helps you to reconnect with life force energy which flows through all living things in the universe. When you’re feeling overwhelmed, spending time in nature will bring you back down to earth (pun intended) and bring your attention back to the natural cycles of life, which is what the feminine is all about.
Head out to a park, forest, or the ocean and leave any distractions at home. For safety, however, keep your phone on you but perhaps switch it to ‘do not disturb’. When you’re in a comfortable spot, take a breath, and observe the universe flowing around you. Watch how centred and revitalised you become when you surrender to the earth.
The beach is my favourite place to go to reconnect with myself, and I know many people feel the same way, and there’s a scientific reason for this. The salt air is filled with negative ions which increase your serotonin levels, the chemical that creates long-lasting feelings of happiness.
5. Explore your sensuality
A woman who embraces sensuality means she’s in tune with her body’s physical senses. Most of the time, when someone hears the word ‘sensual’ they connotate the word with sexuality. While sexuality is part of sensuality, it actually refers to experiencing the pursuit of pleasure through the five senses – taste, hearing, sight, smell and touch. It allows you to enjoy life to its fullest and be empowered with the understanding that you don’t need to rely on anyone else for pleasure. It comes from you.
Sensuality tips: Touch your body. It doesn’t need to be sexual, either. Physical touch is an innate need because we crave connection and interaction. Engaging in a pleasant touch releases the neurotransmitter, oxytocin, also known as ‘the love hormone’. So here’s how you can get that love hormone going. In a safe environment, try roaming your hands across your body. Across every curve, take your time exploring what your body feels like and embrace the flood of pleasurable sensations you experience. This practice is one of the best to create self-love and appreciation for the incredible body you were given.
Look up. Set a time when you’re going to put your phone down and let yourself witness the beauty all around you. Whether that be going to watch a sunrise or sunset and marvelling at the colours that paint the sky. Give yourself the opportunity to see how beautiful the world is.
Taste your food. When you sit down for a meal, try not to rush through it or allow any other distractions while you eat. If you’re lucky, you might have access to food at any time, so it’s easy to take it for granted. It can be such a great exercise to slow down and dissect all the flavours and textures of a meal, and it’s actually quite meditative. You’ll also find that you eat more intuitively when you slow down and take notice of what you’re putting in your body.
So, try slowing down and experiencing all the incredible pleasures that most people overlook, and you’ll find that life becomes so much more magical.
